Back in 2007/2008, a group of racers tired of spending money on unreliable and expensive powerplants to race in the desert looked at utilizing the venerable GM Ecotec engines as an option. The racers decided that the Ecotec, in stock form, provided a great and equal platform for a spec class. After several races and growing interest in the class, a 2009 a meeting was held in Lake Elsinore, California to set up formal rules that govern the class to this day. The rules are simple, a stock, sealed 2.2 or 2.4 GM Ecotec engine is required. The only other basic rule limits wheelbase for various types of vehicles. To date we have crowned several champions of the class based upon an agreed upon schedule of races. The group here and on the Facebook page typically agree upon a schedule that provides an equal series of races between traditional desert and short course racing.
