MINT 400…er 300

March 24, 2012 Las Vegas, NV

Welcome racers to the 2012 MINT 400… er, 300! With a new promoter this year, Best in the Desert, the 2012 MINT 400 had two heats of races, with Class 3000 falling into the first “limited” heat at 6am. The Class 3000 racers were limited to 3, 92 miles laps this year. Only two of the nine starting cars completed all 3 laps, in what many have said was the toughest MINT since the `80s. While the course may not have been as rough as the last two year’s course under SNORE leadership, it was definitively faster, mixed with silt, rock gardens, and wondering loose boulders all over the race line. The combination of high speed, dust, tight race lines and obstacles took out many a racer. We personally sheered our front left spindle with 42 miles left in the race, when we hit a huge rock while in the dust of another race vehicle.

Kieth Waible #3027 took home 1st place, and 6th overall in the first heat. John Gould #3009 took home second, and 15th overall in the first heat. Even without the finish, taking 3rd place in Class 3000 was Ryan Frisby, who moves into 1st place in the 2012 points race. Congratulations to all the racers for enduring “The Great American Off-Road Race”!
